Singapore has a variety of rental properties available to meet various demands, from smaller units such as one bedroom apartments to houses with four or more bedrooms. Along with residential properties, other options include land and commercial units as well. Options may include pet-friendly spaces as well with those that have covered or garage parking.
Types and Locations
The most common type of rental property is a house, but there are many apartments available as well. Examples of what might be on the market include a studio room for rent in Tenah Merah for S$1,900 or a modern, updated two to three bedroom apartment for S$8,000. Most properties are rented out by an owner, although some are rental properties through an agency. In terms of locations, renters may find the most options in larger areas, including the East Coast, Orchard/Holland, Serangoon/Thomson and Balestier/Geylang. Other locations with offerings might include City and South West, Changi/Pasir Ris, West and North.
Sizes and Features
Singapore's Housing and Development Board, or HDB, offers a selection of properties. Examples of what renters might come across include a fully furnished unit with two bedrooms for S$1,700 or an unfurnished three bedroom unit for around S$2,000. Renters might also find a three bedroom house for rent by owner for approximately S$850 to S$1,000 or a well-equipped studio for around S$1,500.
Just as there are expensive properties, there are plenty of relatively inexpensive opportunities for budget-conscious renters. On the less expensive end of the budget scale, there are many smaller units, such as studios and one bedrooms, on the market for anywhere from S$600 to $1,000. Then there are larger and much pricier units, some for as much as S$18,000 or S$19,000. Many units fall between these two price scale extremes.
Renters in search of short-term or long-term properties will find a wide selection throughout Singapore, primarily in heavily populated areas such as the East Coast or the Orchard/Holland area. There are units for rent by owner and agency, including Singapore's own HDB. From small studios for S$850 to spacious homes for S$19,000, consumers will find a variety of rental properties in Singapore to choose from.
